This is quite a tough perennial that will hold its own with other plants that try to crowd it out. It reaches a height of about 2.5 feet(80cm) and start flowering around June-July. I find it needs some staking in order to keep it upright. The brilliant red flowers make this plant indispensable where bold splashes of rich color are desired. They look wonderful when planted in small groupings to add bold color to borders or flower gardens.
