Desdemona' is a striking plant for a damp border or beside a pond. It can be considered as a dual purpose plant: the foliage is large and kidney-shaped, with maroon backs, and the flowers are shaggy, narrow-petalled deep orange daisies which appear in mid-summer. Here I am using it to contrast the green and white of the Holcus mollis verigated grass, which also likes damp conditions. It is hardy and I am looking forward to a greater show next year. The main problem I have with this plant is snails and slugs which relish it.
