The common Nastrusum is an annual that self seeds itself and returns every year. It can if the soil is rich become a nuisance, but it is easily controlled by pulling up unwanted plants. its production of flowers in every shade of glowing scarlet and brilliant orange and its large grey-green, peltate leaves make a pleasing sight in any garden. All parts of the plants are edible. The flowers adds a colourful and spicy taste to a salad. The seeds can be eaten raw or pickled and has a peppery taste.
