This is the double flowered cultivar of the kerria japonica shrub. It is covered in bright yellow flowers in early spring. It can be made into a hedge by judicious pruning. It flowers on the last years growth and can be cut down to the ground afgter flowering. It can reach 8 feet(2.3 mtrs) growing with straight upright stems which can get leggy and fall over. I yearly reduce the crown which expands by suckers or rhizomes to keep to a reasonable size. In winter the stems are green and gives some interest. It continually have a few flowers throughout the summer and the leaves are light green cordate with serrated edges and deep veins giving it a ridged effect. They are quite pretty without the flowers.
