Two or three decades ago Orchids were so expensive, because they were and difficult and took a long time to propagate by seed, that only the rich could afford them. Today they are much cheaper due to tissue culture. The growers have now got it off to a fine art and we get the benifit of cheaper plants and flowers. They are still expensive, but are worth the expense, because the flowers lasts up to five months in the right conditions.
