Soft Rot Caused by Pectobacterium carotovorum ssp. carotovorum.
The rot usually starts with damage to the plant by slugs, snails and other boring insects. When seen it is usually too late to save the plant. Too wet conditions do not help. Picture by Paul Bachi, University of Kentucky Research and Education Center,


Dig up and burn infected plants to contain spread. Avoid damage to healthy plants do not allow plants to be too wet.
