Caused By:-     The Beetle Rhynchaenus fagi(Orchestes fagi)

This is the damage done by this beetle. The picture was obtained from Wikimedia Commons.
The leaves of Beech are eaten leaving round holes. They lay their eggs in the center of the leaf and the larvae mines its way to the tip of the leaf leaving straight tracks of dead leaf, which often merge to kill part of the leaf.

As this usually happens in the spring clipping the Beech and destroying the clippings will produce new growth which is not usually attacked. Spraying with a systemic insecticide is an option if the tree is small.
